The shortest Bodybuilders are for modest men to let their height hold them back from being great, and bodybuilding is no exception.

Weightlifting and short men are not compatible, according to a common misconception. However, the reality is the opposite, and it’s even possible that shorter men might have an edge when it comes to lifting weights.

There is no denying that men of modest height make some of the best bodybuilders in the industry, and they show no signs of slowing down.

  • JAMES “FLEX” LEWIS

  • 5’5.5″

Having lifted weights seriously since the age of 15, Flex Lewis is an experienced bodybuilder. In his native Wales, he was also a semi-professional rugby player, where he earned the nickname “flex” due to his ability to avoid tackles.

According to some, Lewis is the best modest bodybuilder in the world as he has won Mr. Olympia 212 six times.

  • LEE PRIEST

  • 5’4″

A native of Australia, Lee Priest won his first competition at the age of 13 – even younger than Flex Lewis! In addition to his bodybuilding career, Priest did a lot of other interesting things.

Among his accomplishments, Priest has won Rookie of The Year (2005) and the SCEDA Racing Championship in Lancaster, CA. He also worked on the bodywork for the movie “The Hulk,” and appeared on a local Australian television show.

Furthermore, he contributes to MuscleSport Magazine and writes a column. It makes me wonder when he has time to exercise…

  • MOHAMMED “MOMO” BENAZIZA

  • 5’3″

Shortest Bodybuilders Born in Algeria in 1959, Benaziza was born at the beginning of the last century. A friend, who promised to speed up his preparation for an upcoming contest, gave him what was believed to be a lethal injection to end his tragically short career. 1992 was his peak year when he placed 5th in the Mr. Olympia competition.

  • DANNY PADILLA

  • 5’2″

A rockstar like Padilla is hard to come by. Born in Rochester (NY FTW! ), he has been training since he was seven years old. The year after Danny went through some initial hardships, he became one of only two men in history to be crowned Mr. Universe and Mr. America simultaneously by the IFBB (International Federation of Body Builders).

  • FRANCO COLUMB

  • 5’5

In the same way that Lee Priest was more than just a bodybuilder, Franco Columbu was much more. The Terminator actor has appeared in more than 20 different movies and shows in addition to his boxing career.

His friend Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed him to the California Board of Chiropractic Examiners as a chiropractor.

  • SHAWN RAY

  • 5’5″

In his bodybuilding career, Ray competed in three different decades, and he placed in the top 5 in every single Mr. Olympia contest from 1990 to 2001 (!).

As an analyst and commentator for a number of media companies, Shawn has also co-hosted bodybuilding competitions on ESPN.

  • ALEXEY LESUKOV

  • 5’7″

The Russian pianist Lesukov was born in 1988 and graduated from music school. His other passion is dancing, and he recently broke-danced with a European champion. Who would have thought?!

  •  FLAVIO BACCIANINI

  • 4’11”

In addition to being an accomplished actor(Shortest Bodybuilder), Baccianini is the first on our list to stand below 5 inches.

Between 1983 and 2008, he competed and placed frequently, often in the top five.

  • CHOON TAN

  • 4’10”

Apart from being the smallest weightlifter in the UK, Choon Tan also promotes weightlifting, but self-identifies as a lightweight.

As a child, he suffered from a rare condition that stunted his growth but did not let it hold him back. Tan says he doesn’t worry about the things he can’t control and focuses on the things he can.

  •  ADITYA “ROMEO” DEV

  • 2’9″

The world’s smallest bodybuilder has been recognized (informally) as Dev. As a frequent TV guest, he showcased his dancing skills but tragically passed away in 2012 from a ruptured brain aneurysm.

  • OM PLATZ

  • 5’8″

Tom was one of only a few Americans on this list who competed in bodybuilding competitions regularly. His master’s degrees are in fitness science and business administration, and he won the IFBB Mr. Universe competition in 1980.

  • JOSE “THE BOSTON MASS” RAYMOND

  • 5’4″

A spokesperson for Team BPI says that Jose “remains the only bodybuilder to win a National and USA title in three different weight classes – light, welter, and middle.” Raymond has yet to win the Mr. Olympia title, but he is still considered a top competitor.
