What Is A Good Height For Bodybuilding?- (With Details Healthy Weight for Bodybuilding)

Height For Bodybuilding

It’s amazing how normal the best male bodybuilders have been regarding height because the sport focuses on excellent physiques, whether the Height For Bodybuilding is aesthetically pleasing or freakishly shocking. Davids and Goliaths have both existed. It was likely that Franco Columbu, at only 5’5″, was on his way to the top before he left stages to Hulk. It is also likely that Lou Ferrigno, at 6’5″, was similarly on his way to the top when he left stages to Hulk. However, we’re talking about ancient history from four decades ago.

Only two of the 37 Mr. Olympia contests have been won by a bodybuilder taller than 5’10” (one stood over 5’8″). All other contests have been won by bodybuilders over 5’9″. Historically, shorter guys have been ranked as runner-ups or, more recently, in the 212 division. The O stage is rarely reached by guys over 6′. Although he’s only 6’1″ tall, Cedric McMillan has never finished higher than seventh in recent years.

Grab your tape measure and start measuring. To determine if there is an optimal bodybuilding height, let’s take a look at the numbers.

The Height/Weight Classes

The first thing we need to clarify is. Male bodybuilding contests are widely available around the world. IFBB Pro League events feature height or weight classes, and the 212 or, before that, 202 classes have served as a de facto division for shorter men since 2008. There were also two weight divisions in Mr. Olympia, with 200 pounds in each. From 1974 to 1979, this was the dividing line. In that period, lightweights won four of six overall titles. Therefore, shorter/lighter bodybuilders have always had more opportunities to compete. Most amateur contestants weigh less than 198 pounds, and about two-thirds are under that weight. The average height is 5’8″ (90 kg) and the average weight is 90 kg.

Mr. Olympia

This is an IFBB Pro League open division where guys of all heights and weights compete together. Mr. Olympia represents the pinnacle. The numbers tell the story.

  • The 16 winners of the Mr. O competition range from 5’5″ Franco Columbu to 6’112″ Arnold Schwarzenegger.
  • The average height of Mr. Olympia winners, calculated for all 56 contests, is (close to exactly): 5’10” (1.78 m.)

Over the past 37 years, that number has remained virtually unchanged. The average height of Mr. O champs in the modern era is 5’9″ to 5’11”. There were six Mr. O’s out of the first seven. The world we live in today is very different from the one we lived in back then. The only two players under 5’9″ or over 5’11” since 1983 are 5’6″ Dexter Jackson and 5’8″ Brandon Curry.

In the history of the competition, the shorter champs have been one-timer or two-timers. There have been eight Olympia winners with at least three titles, but none have been under 5’9 ”.

There is a difference between second place and third place. Throughout the 57 Mr. Olympias, 20 runner-ups have been under 5’7″, and 11 of them have been bodybuilders. There was only one Olympia in the 1980s where this did not happen. There have been only three last 24 runner-ups who are 5’7″ or less; this has also become less common lately.

In the Olympia-winning sweet spot between 5’9″ and 5’11”, 25% of American men are just barely over 5’9″. It’s reasonable to assume the American standard has prevailed even though the average adult male worldwide is 5’7″. The last Olympians to be held outside the United States were in 1992.

Ms. Olympia

Ms Olympia is harder to calculate now than it was in 1980 because standards have changed so dramatically.

It is important to note, however, that there have been 37 Ms. O winners just focusing on the bodybuilding title. A wide range of heights is available for them, with an average height of 5’3″ to 5’9″.

Four women have won 29 titles out of 37, and they are an average height of 5’7″. There is a significant difference between this and the average American female height of 5’4″.

Ideal Weight to Height

In this article, we will explain how weight-to-height charts help you determine how much weight you should weigh as a male bodybuilder. There is an increase of five to ten pounds of weight per inch. The ideal weight for someone who is 5 feet and 5 inches tall is 160 pounds. You would weigh 165 pounds if you were 5 feet 6 inches tall. Someone who is 5 feet 7 inches tall should weigh 170 pounds and someone who is 5 feet 8 inches tall should weigh 175 pounds. When you reach 5 feet and 11 inches, your ideal weight increases by five pounds per inch. A person who(  Height For Bodybuilding) is six feet tall should weigh 200 pounds instead of 190 pounds, which would be ideal for a person who is five feet and eleven inches tall. The weight per inch then increases by 10 pounds.

Summary

There is a remarkable consistency in the numbers for Mr. Olympia. In open divisions, a male Height For Bodybuilding between average and slightly above average (in America) has been optimal. The design is pleasing to the eye. It does not appear unusually short or tall to observers. In addition, it allows a Mr. O to carry a lot of lean muscle (now 240-300 lbs.) without looking stocky, as shorter, heavier competitors often do. A man’s skeleton is not so large that after filling it out, he appears lanky or unbalanced, as is often the case with men over 6 feet tall. An IFBB Pro League show has never been won by someone over 6’2″.

Bodybuilders typically measure their height between 5’9″ and 5’11”, but in 2019, everyone in the Olympia top five was under 5’9″ for only the second time in history (the other time was 1981). The top five were Brandon Curry (5’8″), William Bonac (5’7″), Hadi Choopan (5’7″), Dexter Jackson (5’6″), and Roelly Winklaar (5’8″). A third of the population will be in 2020. There may be a change in the tide. There are no rules here. All of it is subjective. Hopefully, someone shorter or taller will move the “You must be this height” significantly lower or higher. The reason for this is that bodybuilding is never about being average, it’s always about being exceptional.
